Michelle Obama has dismissed rumors that her marriage to Barack Obamais in trouble.
This speculation arose after the former First Lady failed to attend several high-profile events without her husband, including Donald Trump’s inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. Her solo appearances fueled speculation that a divorce might be on the horizon.
In an interview with Sophia Bush, Michelle clarified that she and Barack Obama are not heading for a divorce. She emphasised that she is now in a position to manage her own schedule as a “grown woman.”
“That’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with like disappointing people,” she said.
“I mean, so much so that this year people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
Michelle Obama blasts divorce rumours
“This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that’s what society does to us.” Michelle said as per USA TODAY.
“Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of … ‘Who do I truly want to be every day? And that changes,” Obama said. “If it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.”
Michelle and Barack Obama have been married for 33 years and have two children together.
