As we approach the festive season online scammers are trying everything in their power to target the pockets of South Africans in their quest to make an easy buck.
The media personality Maps Maponyane recently urged his social media followers not to fall for these scams. This comes after the former Top Billing presenter recently expressed his frustration after his face was used to promote the services of a fake crypto trading company, NovusX Software.
In the bio of their website, a picture of maps can be seen along with a testimonial in which “he” praises NovusX Software for their services.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Maps clarified that this was not him, nor had he ever heard of the company.
In his post, he wrote: “Scam Alert! This scam has been going on for almost a year now. Please be careful. I have no idea who these people are or how they keep getting away with taking advantage of vulnerable people.”
Irritated by how low others would go to ruin the lives of hard-working citizens one user commented on Maps’ post:
Another found humour in the situation highlighting how has already been putting his plans into action.
A third meanwhile questioned whether celebrities are traders as well.
Despite being the poster boy of a year-long scam, this has however not kept him back from living life to the fullest.
Maps has recently shared a series of pictures enjoying his time in Dubai.
