This marks a significant milestone for individual and premium travel experiences to and from South Africa.

CAPE TOWN: A LUFTHANSA FIRST FOR AFRICA

This new Lufthansa product offering Allegris cabins positions Cape Town as a destination for international travellers seeking enhanced comfort.

Furthermore, it underscores the city’s growing reputation as a sought-after destination for both tourism and business.

Last month the airline launched new flights between Munich and Johannesburg.

In offering Allegris cabins on its Cape Town – Munich flights, Lufthansa expects to attract more tourists and business travellers seeking its new cabin.

However, all Lufthansa travel classes from Economy to Premium Economy, Business and First Class are being given a new top product that is unparalleled in the market thanks to the variety of seating types.

A SHOT IN THE ARM FOR TOURISM

This will further support and provide an economic push for Cape Town and the broader Western Cape region.

Rene Koinzack, Lufthansa’s Senior Director of Sales: Southern & East Africa, Nigeria, and Equatorial Guinea, said this improved service enhances Cape Town’s appeal.

“The Allegris seat cabins represent a new level of quality and innovation that we believe will not only enhance the international travel experience for South African passengers but also position Cape Town as a key destination for premium travellers. We anticipate a positive shift in travel patterns with more South Africans choosing to fly internationally with us, while also attracting quality-oriented tourists from key global markets to our local tourism sector.” Koinzack said.

ENHANCED CAPE TOWN SERVICE

This service enhancement comes at a pivotal moment for Cape Town.

The city is indeed emerging as a popular premier destination for tourists from around the globe.

Wesgro, the official tourism, trade, and investment agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, also welcomed this new service.

Wrenelle Stander, Wesgro CEO and official Spokesperson for Cape Town Air Access, said, “We are delighted with the return of Lufthansa’s seasonal Munich flight to Cape Town and the addition of the new Allegris cabin product is sure to provide passengers with an unmatched level of comfort and luxury. This upgraded service shows the commitment of Lufthansa to Cape Town and the Western Cape, and we will continue to do our part in attracting more passengers to the destination.”

DESIRABILITY OF CAPE TOWN

Premium travel options indeed play a crucial role in positioning Cape Town on the world stage.

The city has in fact also seen a large number of tourists arriving on cruise ships.

Cape Town’s cruise sector injected R1.32 billion into the region’s economy during its 2023/2024 season. This is up from R1.2 billion in the previous period.

This steady growth has played a vital role in creating jobs and boosting economic activity across various sectors and comes on the back of a record-breaking performance last year.
