They have seen the comments and have responded to the call of internet users to pay special tribute to former Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni.

Following the news of his passing internet users have called for canned fish brand, Lucky Star to release limited edition Lucky Star canned packaging with the face of Tito Mboweni as its main attraction.

This comes as the pilchards produced by the company appeared to be among Tito’s favourite ingredients when starting his culinary journey as a “Twitter Chef.”

Earlier this week the brand shares their heartfelt condolences after discovering the news of his passing noting that we have lost a true South African icon.

Tito will be laid to rest on Saturday, 19th October.

Recently, President Cyril Ramaphosa revealed that a Special Official Funeral Category 2 will be held in his honour at the Nkowankowa Stadium in Tzaneen, Limpopo.

Meanwhile, Lucky Star has released another statement revealing that they would like to honour him for his part in promoting the Lucky Star brand.

“Many South Africans will also fondly remember him for his imaginative and sometimes unconventional cooking, which became a source of delight and conversation around the country.”

It continued: “Tito’s authenticity and enthusiasm made him a beloved and unintentional celebrity chef. Despite never having an official role with Lucky Star, he embraced our brand with a sense of creativity and warmth that resonated deeply with people from all walks of life.”

“At the right time, and with his family’s permission, we will honour his memory in a way that reflects his unique contribution, with more details to follow,” the statement read.
