With the PSL offseason fast approaching, clubs have ramped up negotiations.

Mamelodi Sundowns remain twelve points ahead of Orlando Pirates, whose title hopes remain alive with their four games in hand.

Rumours around the league

  • Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa has several foreign suitors acquiring his services. Earlier in the year, Miguel Cardoso warned fans to enjoy the Brazilian while they can, prompting further speculation of a winter exit.
  • Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng has returned to training ahead of the Soweto giants crammed schedule, including at least two Champions League outings, a Nedbank Cup final and eight PSL fixtures. His future at the club remains ominous, but a return to the field looks likely.
  • Championship side Sunderland is monitoring Thalente Mbatha.
  • The future surrounding Oswin Appollis has quietened down since Kaizer Chiefs’ and Orlando Pirates’ January pursuit. Both outfits are expected to try again in the offseason.

Mosimane back in the PSL?

According to reports, Pitso Mosimane is nearing a PSL return amid Orlando Pirates’ interest.

“There are a few coaches to be considered for different reasons, but apparently it’s believed that Pitso [Mosimane] is their preferred candidate,” a source said.

“It’s believed that he is their first priority at the moment. That’s what the team wants as things stand. Even if they have not spoken to him (behind the scenes) yet, he is their first priority.

“They are saying if they (Pirates) managed to work with Jose Riveiro for three years, then why can’t they go for a coach like Pitso? So, they know what they are looking for, and they know quality doesn’t come cheap,” the source added.

“But as you know, although he is their first priority, he is not the only one they are looking at. As I said, there are different factors they are looking at.”
