‘Looks like we are in for a very long season’ – Disappointed ex-Kaizer Chiefs star

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane doesn’t see things improving this season for his former club.

Amakhosi lie ninth in the Betway Premiership, 10 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. The Soweto giants started the season well under Nasreddine Nabi, winning their first two league matches. Things have since gone south and Mlwane is worried that the club might have another disappointing campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs season not going according to plan

“The results for Chiefs have been disappointing,” he said.

“I just don’t know what’s happening with the team and all that I can say is that for us who love the team, we are disappointed. I don’t want to single out anyone, whether the problem is with the coach or players, all of them are in this together and it is disappointing what is happening,” said Mlwane told Soccer Laduma

Kaizer Chiefs are already out of contention for the league this season after just nine matches played. Fans were expecting the Glamour Boys to take battle with the likes of Chiefs and Sundowns for the league title but from the look of things, the team might be in a fight for top 8.

“We had a lot of expectations about the team to improve under the new coach but judging by what we have seen so far and the results, it looks like we are in for a very long season,” Mlwane added.

“The results have not been impressive. There is just no progress and all I see is huffing and puffing by the team and it’s disappointing. It’s like the team is taking one step forward and 10 backward,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs will look to boost their squad this season when the transfer market opens in January. Mlwane is worried the club might bring in many players but fail to get results.

“I just feel sorry for Chiefs supporters because their team is so disappointing. But let’s not give up on the team and maybe there is work that is being done behind the scenes to improve the team and the results. I am just worried that the team could end up signing 40 players trying to fix this problem to no avail.”

Can Chiefs sign more players and challenge for top honours soon?
