Mamelodi Sundowns will host Chippa United in a midweek Betway Premiership match on Wednesday, 7 May at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

Masandawana are coming off a 2-0 win over Cape Town City FC last weekend, thanks to goals from Tashreeq Mathews and Iqraam Rayners.

Looking ahead to the clash, Rayners, who is currently the second-highest goal scorer in the Betway Premiership, confirmed that the mood has been good and the victory over the weekend has boosted their morale.

“The mood has always been good, especially at camp, between the players and the technical team. I would like to believe that we are in a good space after last weekend’s game,” he said.

The Chilli Boys are currently eighth on the log, looking to solidify their place in the top-eight and secure a MTN8 berth next season.

However, two of their remaining three matches are against Mamelodi Sundowns – no easy task!

Meanwhile, Bafana Ba Style are closing in on a record-extending eighth consecutive league title.

However, they cannot win the title tonight – even with a victory.

The Tshwane giants require a maximum of seven more log points from their final four matches to lift the title.

However, it’s unlikely to even take that many as it would mean Orlando Pirates would have to win their remaining five matches – and vastly improve their goal differential.

Difficult clash

With the sides meeting for the first time this season, it will be a difficult encounter, according to Rayners.

“It’s always difficult to play teams like Chippa because they are fighting for their lives to ensure they make it to the top eight, and it will be important to get maximum points.”

“It’s always going to be good for a team like Chippa United to play against a team like Mamelodi Sundowns.

“They are going to make things hard for us, but we just need to take the game to the next level and get the maximum points.

“I know there’s quality in that team, and we know they are going to pose serious threats.

“We are looking forward to the game,” he concluded.
