Pietermaritzburg – The DA wants the health department to help unemployed doctors in KwaZulu-Natal find work while rural areas struggle without medical care. DA’s Dr Imraan Keeka says it’s worrying that doctors must protest in the streets for jobs while rural people can’t get healthcare. This week, doctors without work marched to the health department’s offices in Pietermaritzburg demanding jobs.
Verulam – A man wanted for gang murders in Inanda died in a shootout with police in Verulam on Thursday. KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi rushed to the scene after the suspect was killed while fighting police who tried to arrest him.
Durban – About 4,600 spaza shop owners in eThekwini have signed up for business licences. The government has given shop owners until 28 February 2025 to register. Since November, 250 shops have finished all the steps, including waiting for 21 days, and now have official licences.
