KZN news bites: Court denies bail application in DA leader’s murder case

Howick – The DA in KwaZulu-Natal welcomed the decision by the Howick Magistrate’s Court to withdraw the bail application of the man accused of murdering DA councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu. He was remanded in custody, and the case postponed to 8 November, for the bail application. KZN DA leader Francois Rodgers said the party expects the SAPS task team to announce more arrests as the accused was not the only one involved in Ndlovu’s assassination. He says evidence indicates that the accused did not pull the trigger. “We are also appealing to the police to ensure that the accused is not harmed; KZN has a dreadful reputation of witnesses and those accused of crimes being eliminated. We are gravely concerned about the secrecy surrounding the investigation.”

Inanda – Hundreds of matriculants, preparing for their transition to tertiary education next year, are set to benefit immensely from the KwaZulu-Natal health department’s Youth Mental Health Activation programme, scheduled to take place at uMzinyathi, Inanda, on Saturday, 12 October. The community outreach programme is being organised in collaboration with the uMzinyathi UCCSA Youth Ministry and will feature a Youth Ministry Career Expo and an exam prayer session.KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane says the department will engage with school-going youth through various programmes to promote health awareness and provide essential services at schools.

Ethekwini – ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal wants communities to force their municipalities to investigate spaza shops owned by illegal foreigners in different areas. The petition comes after the City of eThekwini recently refused to pass a motion to investigate township spaza shops.

Nongoma – King Misuzulu kaZwelithini will host two days of prayer at KwaKhangela Amankengane Royal Palace. The annual prayer used to be hosted by the late Queen Regent Mantfombi kaSobhuza Dlamini-Zulu. The ceremony starts on Friday, October 11, and ends on Sunday, October 13.
