  • King Misuzulu plans to name an MK Party leader as prime minister, taking the position away from the IFP for the first time ever.
  • The King has support from other royal houses for making changes to the Ingonyama Trust.

King Misuzulu kaZwelithini is set to make history by picking a prime minister from Jacob Zuma’s MK Party, rejecting the IFP for the first time ever.

The King is expected to announce former House of Traditional Leadership chair Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza as the new traditional prime minister at the Battle of Isandlwana commemoration on Wednesday.

Royal sources told Scrolla.Africa that the King has made up his mind not to keep Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi in the position.

“His Majesty has made it clear that he won’t bring back Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi but instead he is planning to replace him with Inkosi Chiliza,” a source said.

“What I won’t tell you is the name of the deputy prime minister. I’m urging you to go to Isandlwana because that’s where the King will make the breaking announcement.”

Last year, the King surprised many by appointing Buthelezi as traditional prime minister – a move that royal rebel uncle Prince Mbonisi Zulu of eKhwezi challenged in court.

Sources say the King also tried to appoint a senior royal as his spokesperson but turned down the uncle’s demands.

“He wanted to choose one of his senior uncles as a spokesperson but that uncle made crazy demands. He also chose Prince Nathi Zulu to replace Prince Simphiwe Zulu in the House of Traditional Leadership and other structures,” the source said.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that King Misuzulu has support from several kingdoms – including the iXu Khwe Royal House, the Amahlubi and the AmaNdebele – for his planned changes to the Ingonyama Trust.

He will speak publicly about the trust for the first time at Wednesday’s event in Nquthu.
