Keri Hilson is back—and she’s not tiptoeing. After 15 long years, the R&B star has finally dropped her new album, We Need to Talk: LOVE. South African fans, get ready—this is not just a comeback, it’s a rebirth.
KERI HILSON’S LAST ALBUM
Hilson’s last album came out when Barack Obama was still in his first term, the iPad had just launched, and Instagram was a novelty, according to AP News.
“On some days, it feels like just a blink ago. But mostly, it feels like a lifetime. I’ve lived nine lives since then,” Hilson confesses.
Now 42, she’s stepping out with a new voice, new stories, and a new sense of freedom.
KERI HILSON’S NEW ALBUM
The album’s lead single, Bae, sets the tone—sultry, confident, and unapologetically grown. “This isn’t a nostalgia act.
This is the sound of a woman fully in her power,” writes one reviewer. Hilson’s sound is still classic R&B, but the lyrics cut deeper.
“I’ma strip off all my clothes, I’ma let you see me,” she sings on Naked (Love), baring her soul and her scars.
THE BEYONCE` BACKLASH
Her journey here wasn’t easy. Hilson faced a storm of backlash after a leaked remix of her hit Turnin’ Me On was seen as a diss to Beyoncé.
“That’s a song that I didn’t actually write. Those are not my words … I was in tears; I was crying. I was adamant that I did not want to do that,” she revealed in a recent interview.
The fallout hit hard, leading to depression and a long retreat from the spotlight.
THE HEALING JOURNEY
But Keri Hilson used her time away to heal. Therapy, journaling, and spiritual retreats helped her rediscover herself.
“There were some perspectives that I needed to uncover … untruths, beliefs that I kind of picked up or inherited about myself,” she says.
She also found a new passion in acting, starring in the upcoming film Fame: A Temptations Story, which premieres this month.
RNB LOVERS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Keri Hilson isn’t chasing trends. She’s writing her own story, on her own terms. “I have music to last for a very long time.
The hardest thing was figuring out what kind of projects I want to put out after this. But I got plenty of music to work with in the near future. I expect to flood the market. That’s what I want to do,” she promises.
With We Need to Talk: LOVE, Keri Hilson proves she’s not just back—she’s better than ever. And for South African R&B lovers, her return feels right on time.
