Kelly Khumalo has come out guns blazing against eNCA news reporter Shahan Ramkissoon after he issued an “apology” after mistakenly stating she had died during a live broadcast.

The singer has threatened legal action against the broadcaster for being “reckless, ignorant, and disrespectful.”.

During a clip that has gone viral, Shahan erroneously claimed Kelly, and not fellow entertainer Winnie Khumalo, had died.

KELLY KHUMALO CLAPS BACK AT SHAHAN RAMKISSOON ‘APOLOGY’

In a tweet on Wednesday, 7 January, Shahan Ramisskoon “apologised” over his live TV blunder.

Without mentioning or tagging Kelly Khumalo, he posted on X: “I made an honest mistake, which I corrected shortly afterward on air. It was a slip of the tongue as I ad-libbed the story. I take full responsibility for the error”.

The eNCA veteran then seemingly snubbed his critics by adding:  “To those seeking to amplify this for attention: do what you must [to] trend and stay blessed.”

On her Instagram Stories, Kelly Khumalo – who called out Shahan in an Instagram post – slammed his “apology.”

She posted a screenshot of his tweet with the caption: “The arrogance.”

SORRY, NOT SORRY?

It’s not the first time Shahan Ramkissoon has apologised for an on-air slip-up.

In 2021, the veteran anchor claimed that EFF leader Julius Malema had appeared at the Randburg Magistrate Court on charges of corruption instead of an alleged assault.

He tweeted at the time: “I did correct myself and apologise for the error.”

However, a year earlier, Shahan refused to apologise over allegations he “disrespected and belittled” then-KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala during a live interview.

He tweeted: “I will not apologise for simply doing my job and holding politicians accountable.”

In another tweet, Shahan claimed that “No person should have the power to act and make decisions that lead to my credibility and integrity as a journalist being questioned.”

He added: “I was never told to toe the line, and I never will. My independence stands!”
