‘Kaizer Chiefs was known for having the best goalkeeper’

Kaizer Chiefs’ current goalkeepers should be fired up after reading this.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ PROBLEMS ARE BETWEEN THE POLES

According to the former Amakhosi number five Thomas Sweswe, Itumeleng Khune was more than a mere loss for the club. “They [club management] needed to retain him. I think his departure really affected the team’s goalkeeping department. Khune would have been there to push them,” Sweswe told FARPost.

“Because a successful defense line needs a dependable goalkeeper. I worked with him, hence I know what he would have offered despite the age. There is a need for someone who has a serious command and a relationship with the defenders,” the former Kaizer Chiefs skipper added.

“That is what Khune was, and I believe his presence could have helped because at the moment, I don’t see a dependable goalkeeper in the team. Chiefs was known for having the best goalkeeper in the land, but right now, that legacy is gone.

“Maybe that is an area that still needs attention. But the coach [Nasreddine Nabi] is good. I like his character and the fact that he is straightforward in everything he says,” concluded Sweswe.

NKOSINGIPHILE NGCOBO IN NEW ROLE

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has created high anticipation among the Amakhosi fanbase.

It’s been clear that the 25-year-old Ngcobo has struggled to grab and own the number 10 position at Amakhosi. Coach Nabi has now started to try him as a deep-lying playmaker in the number six or eight role.

“It’s true that Ngcobo played a different role than usual. We felt that in other moments, Magesi were defending too deep and we needed more technical quality to link up midfield and attack,” said Nabi via FARPost. “At some point, you need to take a risk to get the results you want, and that’s the risk we took. But we felt that we were a bit unbalanced. We were a little bit too offensive, but we wanted to take the risk to get the results.

The Kaizer Chiefs mentor concluded by saying: “We believe that Ngcobo is a very technical player and very smart, but we want him to be a bit more physical in his game because when you play in the middle of the park, there’s not enough space, people get to you very quickly. We need him to get that quality in his game.”

CAN NGCOBO OWN THE NUMBER POSITION?
