Kaizer Chiefs fans will be quietly confident about their team’s January spending. Here’s a quick and convenient summary.
Three senior marquee arrivals at Kaizer Chiefs
27-year-old Glody Lilepo arrives to bring versatility and a surprise factor to the Chiefs attack. 30-year-old Tashreeq Morris brings experience and physicality up front after leaving SuperSport, while Thabo Cele’s midfield mastery should take the Chiefs engine room to the next level. The 27-year-old has five Bafana caps and has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Amakhosi promote Tati and Hlongwane
According to Soccer Laduma, attacking midfielder Siphesihle Tati is in line for a three-year deal at Kaizer Chiefs. The youngster will reportedly join up with his senior teammates between now and the end of the 2024-20-25 campaign. Tati was born in August 2004 in Soweto. Nicknamed ‘Zizo’, Tati is a creative flair player with an eye for a killer pass. Meanwhile, young striker Naledi Hlongwane has been handed professional terms and jersey number 35.
Could any of Chiefs’ new players face Orlando Pirates?
Cele is severely lacking match sharpness after playing his last competitive outing in November. He’ll need a couple of weeks to accustom himself to the pace of South African football. Meanwhile, Morris is suspended after a dismissal in his last match for SuperSport. He sat out the Free Agents clash in the Nedbank Cup and must sit out one more match. Glody Lilepo has the best chance of the three to start the Soweto Derby but that hinges on the Congolese star getting a work permit approved.
Saile and Mdantsane headline the exits
Utility attacker Christian Saile has joined SuperSport on loan while playmaker Mduduzi Mdantsane will spend the remainder of the campaign on loan with Richards Bay.
Appollis stays at Polokwane
One of the biggest non-sagas of the window was a failed move for Oswin Appollis to Chiefs. According to SoccerLaduma, Polokwane City dug their heels in over the star winger with chairman Johnny Mogaladi preferring to sell the Bafana man to overseas suitors if at all. Injuries to key duo Tlou Nkwe and Thabang Matuludi also strengthened his resolve to keep the 23-year-old. Polokwane is currently third in the Betway premiership and chasing an unlikely continental finishing place.
