Kaizer Chiefs to promote the next big talent in their ranks as they create a positional succession plan.
Chiefs’ scouts and technical team are excited about the potential of 20-year-old Xolani Cossa, who has caught the club’s attention with his impressive performances in the DDC side. This publication has learned that Chiefs are set to promote the young defender to the senior team after he impressed coaches and scouts alike.
A source close to the club confirmed that Cossa, a left-footed central defender, has stood out for his unique skill set. “He is a rare kind of central defender. He is left-footed but a central defender. You remember Tefu Mashamaite? That kind of defender. Very rare. That’s why the technical team has agreed with the DDC coaches that he should be promoted to the first team,” said the Siya source.
The technical team is excited about Cossa’s potential to become an understudy to Bafana Bafana’s Rushwin Dortley. “He is like Rushwin Dortley. Very skilled and good both in the air and on the ground. They want him to be an understudy to Dortley, and he will be playing in most of the friendly games so that he can acclimatize with playing for the first team,” the source added.
Focus on youth development plans
In addition to Cossa’s promotion, Kaizer Chiefs are looking at other promising youngsters in their ranks. The club plans to promote these talents, but some may be loaned out to gain valuable game experience. “Some of these youngsters will be promoted and then loaned out. They don’t want to waste their talent by keeping them for a long time in the DDC while they are ready for the top league. So, since they can’t all play at the same time, they will loan some of them out,” explained another source close to the team.
The club’s approach mirrors their decision to loan out Donay Jansen to SuperSport United. Which allowed him to gain crucial experience. “You will see more of them in the near future as a way of building a strong squad for the future,” the source added.
With the promotion of Xolani Cossa and plans for further loan deals. Kaizer Chiefs are building a pipeline of young talent ready to make an impact in the senior team. This strategy aims to ensure the club’s future success by nurturing. And developing players who can make their mark at the top level.
