Kaizer Chiefs’ apparent pursuit of Bafana Bafana star Elias Mokwana seems to be over for another window at least. Here’s the latest.
Mokwana’s future in Tunisia was in doubt
“Much of the issues are confidential,” Elias Mokwana’s attorney Kabelo Mashigo told SABC Sports’ Mazola Molefe last week.
“But I can confirm that the club is in breach of the agreement. We provided them with notice to rectify the breach. They have not complied, leaving the player with no option but to accept the repudiation. Elias is focusing on the call-up now and once that is done, we will consider the next step,” Mashigo added.
U-Turn for Kaizer Chiefs target
The situation looks a lot different now, however. Mokwana will return to Esperance once he’s done with international duty for South Africa against South Sudan. Bafana meets the South Sudanese side on Tuesday 19 November.
“On Friday we had a discussion with the club, and we were able to find each other,” Mashigo said.
“The club has essentially rectified its breach, meaning they are no longer in breach and have complied with the terms of the contract to date.
“Elias will be returning to Tunis to fulfil his obligations as per the contract once he is done with national duty,” his attorney assured the public broadcaster.
Amakhosi chasing current and former Sundowns stars?
Remember all of the Andile Jali talk? Whether or not those were just rumours, Chiefs seemed genuinely keen on the vastly experienced midfield general. Jali left Sundowns under a cloud but has started well with his new club Chippa.
Recent rumours involve a potential Chiefs raid for talented 28-year-old Downs playmaker Sphelele Mkhulise. This week, Bongani Zungu has dominated the headlines as Amakhosi hovers to sign the former Sundowns schemer.
