Kaizer Chiefs target Vuyo Letlapa has been called to the Bafana Bafana squad to replace Aubrey Modiba.

The 21-year-old Sekhukhune United left-back has been summoned to the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin in the coming days. Letlapa has been impressive for his club in the 17 league matches he has played.

This week, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns star Aubry Mothiba had to attend to a family matter. The Kaizer Chiefs target Letlapa could earn his first Bafana cap having replaced the talented left-back.

“It’s been a long time since we started a camp with 23 players present, but one is not here, Aubrey Modiba, but he has something more important than being at a camp with the national team as his wife gives birth,”Broos said as per iDiski Times.

“It needs to be in the presence of the father; this is why Aubrey is not here, but he might join us later, but I think these things are more important in life than a qualification game for the World Cup,” the coach added.

Bafana Bafana have already announced the withdrawal of Orlando Pirates playmaker Patrick Maswanganyi. The midfielder has since been replaced with Polokwane City’s Ndamulelo Maphangule. Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley was another player that was in the Bafana team but injury forced him out of the team.

When are Bafana playing?

Bafana play Lesotho at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday evening. Four days later, they travel to Ivory Coast to play Benin.
