Kaizer Chiefs star set for quick return after injury scare. Here is the latest.

Chiefs fans can breathe a sigh of relief as new signing Glody Makabi Lilepo is expected to be fit for the upcoming Nedbank Cup round of 16 match against Chippa United on Saturday, February 15, at FNB Stadium.

Despite being substituted during Friday’s clash against Stellenbosch FC with a suspected injury, Lilepo’s condition is not serious. A club insider confirmed that the forward suffered a minor knock to his thigh late in the game but has been recovering well.

Fast recovery boosts Chiefs’ attack

Lilepo was in visible discomfort after leaving the pitch, but swift medical attention helped ease his pain and accelerate his recovery.

“No, it’s not a serious injury. It was a precautionary measure not to aggravate his knock. It was just a knock on the thigh which was uncomfortable at the moment, but the team was flying back on Saturday and he was already feeling much better. He joined the rest of the team in the recovery training. He is expected to be ready for the next game. There is almost a week to improve his fitness and be ready for the game against Chippa United,” the source confirmed.

Matlou also nearing a comeback

In another positive development for Chiefs, midfielder George Matlou is making significant progress in his recovery. Matlou, who picked up an injury in the Soweto Derby, missed the recent matches against AmaZulu and Stellenbosch. However, the club’s medical and conditioning teams are optimistic about his return.

“Yes, he was injured in the Soweto Derby and that’s why he missed the AmaZulu and Stellenbosch games. But things are looking positive for him with the medical and conditioning teams. Whether he plays or not will depend on team selection. But he is doing well and looks much better, and by Saturday he will be ready as well,” another source revealed.

Still without the talented Duba

While Lilepo and Matlou are expected to be available for selection, Chiefs will still be without striker Wandile Duba. The young forward remains sidelined due to a knee injury, leaving a gap in the attacking lineup.

With Lilepo’s speedy recovery and Matlou’s improving condition, Chiefs are looking stronger ahead of their crucial Nedbank Cup encounter. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the team selection as Amakhosi aim to progress further in the tournament.
