Kaizer Chiefs’ Nasreddine Nabi calls it Africa’s biggest rivalry.

Chiefs head coach is gearing up for the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates. With Jose Riveiro leading the Buccaneers for his sixth derby, Nabi is stepping into one of Africa’s most electrifying football rivalries.

The Tunisian tactician is no stranger to heated football clashes, having experienced East Africa’s Derby between Simba SC and Young Africans. However, he believes the Soweto Derby stands in a league of its own.

Nabi: ‘This Is the Biggest Derby in Africa’

Excitement is at an all-time high as Nabi and his technical team prepare for their first encounter in this historic battle.

“It’s true it’s my first derby in South Africa. I followed the previous ones from where I was, and the feeling and joy are incomparable,” said Nabi as quoted by iDiski Times.

“I’m happy to get a chance to be a part of this day. The players and technical staff are excited about the game.”

He emphasized the significance of the fixture, not just for the clubs but for the city of Soweto and its passionate supporters.

“It’s the history of the two clubs, the fans, the history of the city of Soweto. We understand the passion around this derby. I have been part of many derbies around Africa, but I consider this one the biggest in Africa right now.”

Pirates’ coach breaks down key stats of Chiefs

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi analysed the fine margins that separate the two teams ahead of the showdown.

“The margins between the two teams are very narrow. Defensively, we’re almost similar, chance creation is similar, but the only difference is on goals conceded,” Ncikazi pointed out.

“They have conceded more, but every other stat is equal if I were to use statistics. So, the margins between the two teams are not as big except for log positions and the goals conceded.”

Ncikazi also stressed that form and records won’t matter on the day.

“It’s a derby. Form and records don’t work. It’s what happens on the day, and we’ll try to focus on our performance so that we can get a result.”
