Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be making progress in their pursuit of a top target of theirs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs and Sundowns are both believed to be fighting for the services of Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum.
The 26-year-old Salum currently plies his trade for Azam FC, in his country’s topflight. In the previous window, it was reported Masandawana were prepared to fork out around R40 million rand for the player. This as they saw him as the perfect replacement for Gaston Sirino who joined Amakhosi on a free.
Chiefs coaches know Salum
That move failed to materialise, however, with Azam asking Sundowns for more than that. Then upon arrival, new Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze reportedly instructed the cub to go for Salum. This made sense as both he and head coach Nasreddine Nabi know him from Yanga SC.
Now according to Soccer-LadumaChiefs have stepped up their pursuit for Salum by making a R15 million bid!
“The club has taken the proposal by assistant coach Cedric Kaze very seriously concerning the need to sign Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum from Azam FC and that is why they have made an offer. For now, I can tell you that it’s not in the region of around R30 million that the club asked for the player when Sundowns inquired about him but it’s a good offer from Chiefs who have a tight budget at the moment. It will all depend on the other conditions and clauses in the proposal which could motivate Azam to consider what Chiefs have put on the table,” said the source to the same publication.
Set to beat Sundowns to him for less?
A second source confirmed the offer from Chiefs is R15 million. This less than the R25 million that Sundowns offered for Salum.
“Their offer that they are apparently proposing to Azam is around R15m. But there are other clauses in the proposal which could be enticing to Azam to look at the proposal with interest. And also knowing that both Kaze and Nabi have worked with him before, that could be a plus factor for the deal to happen though at the moment it’s just an offer put on the table.” Said the source.
Chiefs fans, how big would it be for the club to beat Sundowns to Salum for less? Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below.
