The unfortunate incident left Dortley sidelined for the past three matches – against Magesi FC, Stellenbosch FC and Cape Town City FC.

Dortley’s injury has also affected his international prospects.

He was looking forward to representing Bafana Bafana in their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers next week after making the preliminary squad.

He will now have to sacrifice his spot as he focuses on making a full recovery.

Surgery went smoothly

The surgery was deemed essential to ensure a full recovery, and reports indicate it went smoothly.

Amakhosi’s medical team is optimistic about Dortley’s prognosis, which is encouraging both for the player and the club.

While the timeline for his return remains uncertain, there is hope that he will be back on the field in the not too distant future, but almost certainly not this season.

Kaizer Chiefs’ next match

Meanwhile, in what will be their last match before the first FIFA International break of the year, Kaizer Chiefs will travel to Durban for a Betway Premiership meeting with Richards Bay on Sunday afternoon.

The match will take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban with kick-off scheduled for 15:30.

Kaizer Chiefs are currently in eighth position, with 29 points after 21 matches, thanks to eight wins, five draws and eight defeats.

The Rich Boyz lie 12th with 21 points after playing as many games.

How big a blow is Dortley’s injury to Kaizer Chiefs’ season?
