Kaizer Chiefs eye new right-back in potential player swap deal.
Chiefs have set their sights on Richards Bay defender Lwandile Mabuya, signalling a potential defensive reinforcement ahead of the next transfer window. Sources close to the club confirm that Chiefs have engaged in discussions with the Bay and are preparing an official bid to secure the talented star.
Chiefs poised to table an offer for Mabuya
Insiders reveal that Amakhosi’s interest in Mabuya isn’t new. The club has been monitoring him since the start of the season and is now prepared to take the next step.
“What I know is that Chiefs have been interested in Mabuya for some time now since the start of the season, and now it’s believed that they are close to tabling an offer to buy the defender. No, I can’t say how much it is, but it’s between the two clubs right now, and it’s up to Richards Bay to decide. But what we know is that Chiefs are interested in the defender,” a source confirmed.
Potential player exchange on the table
A key factor in the deal could involve a player exchange. Richards Bay currently has two Chiefs players on loan, and an agreement could see one or both of them remain at the club as part of the transfer arrangement.
“From what we understand, there could be a player exchange between the two clubs, mainly Mduduzi Mdantsane. Yes, Sabelo Radebe could also stay, but that could be decided when everything is settled and agreed upon. Now they have to consider the offer Chiefs have tabled first, then the rest can happen, including a player exchange,” the source added.
Since joining Richards Bay in 2020, the 24-year-old right-back has been a key figure in the team’s defensive setup. His consistent performances in the league have made him a valuable target for a club like Chiefs. Which will be looking to bolster its squad for next season.
Richards Bay Chairman Responds
When approached for comment, Richards Bay chairman Sfiso Jomo Biyela provided a brief but telling response about the situation.
“There was interest (from Chiefs). Not sure now,” Biyela responded to Soccer Laduma.
Chiefs rely on Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons for that position(right-back). But they often prefer loanee Njabulo Blom there, even though he primarily plays as a midfielder.
With Amakhosi eager to strengthen their squad and Richards Bay considering their options. So the coming weeks could determine whether Mabuya will make the move. If a player exchange deal is finalized, it could be a win-win for both clubs. Chiefs fans will be keeping a close watch as negotiations unfold.
