Kaizer Chiefs: ‘Don’t sign these players!’

Kaizer Chiefs’ season has been filled with highs and lows, but the latest win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup this past weekend has certainly provided a glimpse of what could be possible.

As the Glamour Boys and Nasreddine Nabi continue to plan for next season, they will want to carefully consider which signings could strengthen the team.

Thembinkosi Lorch and Sipho Mbule – who are on loan at Wydad Athletic and Sekhukhune United from Sundowns – are just two players who have been linked with Chiefs in the past.

With talk that the duo could be available to leave Masandawana at the end of the season, there are some whispers that they could soon come back onto Chiefs’ recruitment radar.

However, when talking on the Soccerbeat podcast, former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has suggested Chiefs should look elsewhere.

“What’s important is for Chiefs to maintain the team spirit, I wouldn’t advise them to sign Mbule and Lorch even if they were free to be honest,” Khan said.

“The two players come with a lot of baggage. They’re good players, but what they do off the field is going to influence what happens on the field.

“Chiefs once signed Khama Billiat from Sundowns, and he was a very good player, but he came with a lot of off-field problems. So, when I look at this, I don’t just look at the technical and tactical ability. I also look at the mentality and discipline because what makes a great team is players who are disciplined and don’t party.”

Kaizer Chiefs ready for a return to action

Kaizer Chiefs will face off against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday. The match will kick off at 17:30, with Amakhosi looking to build on the momentum gained from their semi-final victory over Sundowns.

This match is part of a crucial run-in for Chiefs, with the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates looming on 3 May. The team’s performances in the upcoming matches against Chippa United and Marumo Gallants respectively will be vital in setting the tone for the derby.
