Kaizer Chiefs‘ assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has explained why he is not concerned about Orlando Pirates despite the Soweto Derby being two weeks away.
With Nasreddine Nabi suspended, Youssef has stepped in and will officially be in charge of the Glamour Boys when they take on Sekhukhune United this weekend. He is expected to lead Amakhosi once again during the Nedbank Cup clash next weekend.
Kaizer Chiefs will welcome Nabi back just in time for the Orlando Pirates clash. The Tunisian coach is facing a two-match suspension after he was given a red card following his team’s 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows this past weekend.
This week, Youssef said the focus was on the next game and not the derby.
“For us, there is Sekhukhune, after that [there] is a Cup game but we have to focus on Sekhukhune, when we finish with Sekhukhune we think about cup game,” he told the media as per GOAL.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to face off
“Then we can discuss about the derby, but now we have Sekhukhune. We manage game by game, week by week.
“We don’t think about next month or derby, the team is focussed on managing the next game. When it’s the week of the derby I can answer for you what we have to prepare for the derby,” Youssef concluded.
Since Nabi took over, Amakhosi have had a mixed bag of results. Five wins from the opening 13 matches is a slight improvement from last season however given how much the club has spent on players, many fans expected better results.
Kaizer Chiefs’ biggest challenge this season will come on 1 February against Orlando Pirates. Although Nabi has played Mamelodi Sundowns twice and lost, he was easily forgiven. A defeat against the Buccaneers might not go so well, however.
