Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns could face off for the third time this season.
The two teams already played each other in the Betway Premiership and Carling Knockout Cup with Masandawana winning both matches.
As the Betway Premiershiptakes a brief hiatus during the FIFA international break, both teams will participate inaugural Home of Legends Cup this Sunday in Gqeberha. The one-day tournament will take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and features Chiefs, Sundowns, Golden Arrows, and Chippa United.
Kaizer Chiefs looking to avenge their two losses against Sundowns
“We’re delighted to be part of this initiative,” said Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing Director Jessica Motaung.
“The Home of Legends Cup exemplifies the country’s passion for the beautiful game and the spirit of unity that defines South African football. It’s an excellent opportunity for our team to stay competitive during the break and keep our loyal supporters entertained.”
With Chiefs and Sundowns in action in the Legends Cup, expect a huge turnout in Gqeberha this coming Sunday.
Motaung urges fans to fuel the energy and turn out in force, maintaining the impressive attendance numbers seen thus far this season.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the incredible support this season. We encourage our fans to continue showing their passion and loyalty. Their presence makes a significant difference to the team’s performance,” she said.
Kaizer Chiefs are more likely to field their strongest side if they play Sundowns in the tournament. Nasreddine Nabi will only be without Rushin Dortley and Fiacre Ntwari, who are away on international duty.
The Home of Legends Cup presents an enticing prospect for football enthusiasts, offering a unique blend of high-stakes competition and entertainment.
