It was a wonderful Saturday for Kaizer Chiefs fans but not so much if you’re of the Orlando Pirates persuasion. Here’s a recap.

Kaizer Chiefs advance to the Carling Knockout quarters, Orlando Pirates dumped out

Orlando Pirates’ fanatical supporters across Mzansi will still be reeling from a surprise Carling Knockout defeat to Magesi. Chiefs didn’t have any such struggles, thumping SuperSport 4-0 with goals from Gaston Sirino, Yusuf Maart, Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley Du Preez.

Jose Riveiro’s cup specialists are out of the Carling Knockout after a surprise 2-3 defeat to PSL newcomers Magesi. The Sea Robbers have won three consecutive MTN8 crowns and consecutive Nedbank Cups but the Carling Knockout remains a problem tournament. Kabelo Dlamini scored an 86th-minute consolation and a late Magesi own goal made things interesting in stoppage time but the underdogs held on for a huge win. Patrick Maswanganyi had the ball in the net in the 95th minute but his goal was correctly chalked off for offside.

Pirates starting XI vs Magesi: Chaine; Van Rooyen, Sesane, Sibisi, Hotto; Rasebotja, Dlamini; Mofokeng, Kimvuidi, Saleng; Mabasa.

Subs: Buthelezi, Maela, Monyane, Ndlondlo, Maswanganyi, Nkota, Moleleki, Gilberto, Makgopa.

Red-hot Chivaviro could represent Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe national team coach Michael Nees is monitoring Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro who’s eligible to play for The Warriors. This is according to SABC Sport.

Chivaviro was born in Limpopo to a Zimbabwean father and a South African mother so he’s eligible for both but must choose carefully as his first choice will be a permanent one. Nees’s Zimbabwe side comfortably beat Namibia 3-0 in a recent qualifier with Walter Musona bagging a brace.
