Jose Riveiro gives up on PSL, asks to leave early!

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, who has apparently signed with an unnamed new club, has been allowed to leave early following last Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final loss.

Tomorrow’s game will be the Spaniard’s 131st and final game in charge of the Soweto giants, a three-year partnership that has resulted in five domestic trophies. It’s been a transformative period for the Soweto giants, who were dealing with an identity crisis before Riveiro’s arrival.

Riveiro to leave tomorrow

“Jose approached us a few weeks ago with a request to be released from his contract ahead of schedule, having signed with a new club,” said Orlando Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza.

“Given the timing; amidst a series of crucial fixtures – we believed it was best to delay this announcement until after the Nedbank Cup Final. His contribution since joining the Club has been immense. We learned a lot from him, and he learned a lot from us.

“While we would have preferred to formally honour him with a proper send-off, we fully respect his decision to depart before the end of his tenure.”
