Springbok Jesse Kriel won the hearts of fans after a clip of him speaking in Xhosa after the team’s victory against Wales went viral.

On Saturday, 23 November, the national team played their final test match of 2024. The Boks have won 11 out of 13 games during their successful season.

In a clip posted by SuperSport, Jesse Kriel was interviewed by Springboks assistant coach Mzwandile Stick on their team’s 2024 season.

Speaking Xhosa, Mzwandile asked Jesse how he felt about winning 11 out of 13 games.

The athletic player – known for his chiselled physique – responded: “Ndicel’ i13 out of 13 [I wanted 13 out of 13].”

He added in English: “We dropped the ball, and we’re very disappointed. It’s small margins. Next season, we want to push to go even better”.

Thanking Mzwandile for his hard work, he added: “Ngiyabonga Mqeqeshi [thank you, boss]”.

Jesse Kriel – who was born in Cape Town and lived in KwaZulu-Natal – is fluent in English, Afrikaans, and Xhosa.

It’s not the first time Jesse Kriel’s multilingual skills have gone viral. During the 2023 World Cup trophy tour, the 30-year-old was seen singing along with the Gwigo Squad, a group of sports supporters.

In a clip posted on TikTok, the ecstatic star sang along to the praise song Siyazalana while riding the Springboks bus.
