After Isencane Lengane’s latest episode, Women For Change, along with some concerned viewers, have expressed concern and condemned the show for their continued exploitation of the role and impact of GBV and domestic abuse, and have called for Moja Love to put the show on the chopping block at once.

Currently enjoying its fourth season on Moja Love, Isencane Lengane quickly captured mzansi’s attention when they revealed that they would be following the story, wedding, and marriage of two 16-year-old lovers by the name of Thando and Siyacela. However, as the years have gone by, and Thando and Siyacela have grown older and tried to navigate the world as adults, a more sinister and concerning dynamic has emerged in their relationship, where things have gone to the extent of getting physical, as Thando has said during some conversations and confessionals.

Viewers have continued to express their concern over Thando’s well-being, and have inquired what Moja Love’s role is in providing some form of support to the youngsters. Although users had previously expressed desires for the show to be cancelled, the call has intensified immensely after the show’s latest episode, which heavily revolved around the drama of Siyacela wanting to take a second wife, ended with Thando experiencing an emotional breakdown after learning that Siyacela had made his decision regarding taking a second wife.

This appears to have been the final straw for users who have followed the show for multiple seasons now, as they believe that, should they not intervene, Thando might just fall victim to becoming yet another fatal statistic of the rampant GBV and domestic abuse epidemic that plagues South Africa. As they often do, non-profit organisation Women For Change has taken to their social media to condemn Moja Love and Isencane Lengane for their role in perpetuating and normalising GBV and domestic abuse, and have called for the reality TV show to be cancelled once and for all.

Furthermore, the organisation calls on the channel to provide any necessary support to Thando should she express any wishes to leave her marriage to Siyacela, as well as for the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) to hold Moja Love accountable for the role they played in enabling Thando’s abuse.

The movement to get the show cancelled has gained some traction, as more and more viewers contact the BCCSA as well as Moja Love to do the right thing and protect Thando.
