Popular Tiktoker Matthew Lani opens up about how he got infected with HIV, fame and being homeless

MATTHEW LANI: ‘BEING OBSESSED WITH FAME MADE HIM HOMELESS’

The content creator Matthew Lani recently admitted in an interview on Engineer Your Life Podcast that he lied about being a doctor.

He reveals that his partner of five years deliberately infected him with HIV after he accused his ex of being a serial cheater.

“He confessed that he deliberately infected me.”

He also reveals that his former partner paid him nearly R1 million after he went through private prosecution and a civil case.

Lani also reveals that Matthews Lani was a character and not his real name.

“I wrote a fake name, fake surname and some random ID number. I made up a signature and was coerced into writing the confession.”

Lani also reveals that he was not aware that he was being recorded.

“I decided to start social media accounts. We had to come up with different characters and that is how Dr Matthew came about. We trademarked Dr Matthew. This was to humanise the education (of HIV) and simplify it.”

He adds that he laughed at the statement from the Department of Health because they did a campaign and he sent them a disclaimer.

“I found it absolutely ridiculous. I knew that I was protected behind the scenes and had proof.”

‘BEING OBSESSED WITH FAME MADE ME HOMELESS’

Sunday World recently revealed that the bogus doctor Matthew Lani is homeless and moved in with his mother in March after losing everything.

“Since January 2024, my mother has resided and worked at a building as a caretaker,” says Lani.

“So, after losing my apartment, car, and everything else because of the Dr Matthew dilemma, I moved in with her in March,” he adds.

It is believed he began living with his mother in Windsor East, west of Johannesburg. His mother worked at the building at the beginning of the year but was later evicted.

He also reveals that the owner gave his mother a notice to leave the property in July.
