The taxi association have yet to decrease fares midst a five-month decline in fuel.
Diesel and petrol prices hit their highest point in May this year, followed by a steady decline through to November.
The drop in fuel costs has offered some relief to businesses and individual consumers alike, easing the strain on household budgets and transportation costs in many areas.
Taxi prices had followed a similar trajectory until May, reflecting the rising cost of fuel at the time. However, failed to mirror price changes when the decline in diesel and petrol prices began.
This has sparked frustration among commuters, who argue that fare reductions are long overdue given the significant drop in fuel expenses.
In the midst of the five month fuel price drop, National Taxi Alliance spokesman Theo Malele said: “We are still, however, nowhere near profitable margins as a business, and this is due to the non-subsidy of the taxi industry.
“As we step into the public transport month of October, we urge and encourage people to leave their vehicles and help promote public transport to offset the environmental degradation through our deposit of carbon emissions to help safeguard the future of human beings.”
What date will the prices increase?
The first Wednesday of each month is when fuel prices alter, meaning the upcoming shift will happen on December 4.
Tuesday will be your last chance of filling up at the current rate.
