How to Fix a Prepaid Meter Connection Error Quickly

First, make sure your meter is on and that you have your most recent electricity token. Follow the steps in the video below to reset the error or re-enter your token to restore your service. Most prepaid meter problems can be solved with this quick fix. If this happens, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the keypad and plug it into a different power outlet socket, preferably one that is closer to the main distribution board.

2. Unplug all appliances near the keypad. Then, systematically disconnect other appliances in the house that are plugged in and switched on. Observe if disconnecting any one of them resolves the issue.

  • Take note of which appliance causes the problem (e.g. DSTV ).
  • Keep a list of problem appliances for future reference.

3. Check the fluorescent light near the keypad and make sure it isn’t interfering with the signal.

4. Reboot the meter: Press “I”, “#”, or the blue button on the keypad. Keep pressing until you hear a beep and the digital display shows a running dashed line. Once it displays the kW units remaining, your meter is ready to accept tokens.
