The South African Social Security Agency continues to provide SASSA SRD in 2025 as part of crucial social-welfare support for needy residents. Moreover, a recent High Court ruling promises to open up SASSA SRD in 2025 to millions more who struggle to make ends meet every month.
In brief, the ruling found that former minister Zulu deliberately pushed exclusionary regulations through to limit the number of approved applicants. The court ruled these draconian regulations were ‘unlawful’, paving the way for widespread uptake of SASSA SRD in 2025. The agency said last week it had not choice but to appeal the judgement …
SASSA SRD IN 2025
Nevertheless, for roughly every 8-million recipients of SASSA SRD in 2025, reportedly a further 8-million eligible applicants are turned away. And for good reason, argues the Department of Social Development (DSD). Because there simply isn’t enough budget to go around. Doubling SASSA SRD in 2025 would cost taxpayers R35 billion. And the National Treasury fears doing so would negatively impact ‘core’ SASSA grants like Older Persons and Child Support for parents with minors.
That said, if the agency’s appeal is not thrown out, the flood gates will open for SASSA SRD in 2025. And here’s all you need to know about applying successfully:
- To qualify for SASSA SRD in 2025 you must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or legal refugee registered with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
- You must be aged 18-60 and unemployed.
- Additionally, you may not receive any other social grant or unemployment insurance benefit at the time of your application.

Each application method requires the same basic information and undergoes identical verification process as above.
