With the 16 Days of Activism campaign in full swing, Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber has been accused of ignoring calls to cancel Chris Brown’s visa to South Africa.
The department has felt pressure from Patricia de Lille’s political party, the GOOD Party, and anti-gender-based Violence activists Women For Change.
The US singer – who has a history of abuse – is set to perform in South Africa days after the campaign comes to an end.

The 16-Day Activism campaign against GBV kicked off on Monday, 25 November, and will run until 10 December.
To commemorate the occasion, activists Women For Change submitted their official petition to the Department of Home Affairs and Minister Leon Schreiber to revoke Chris Brown’s visa.
The organisation also called upon promoters Big Concerts to cancel the concert and stand with fellow South Africans who are “demanding accountability and justice in South Africa’s fight against GBVF.”

The party’s account tweeted: “Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber, refuses to act on Chris Brown’s visa despite his criminal history. While the government talks tough on #GBV during #16DaysOfActivism, Schreiber turns a blind eye to an abuser. He has the power to protect women but chooses not to.
It continued: “Our repeated emails to Schreiber and his team have gone unanswered. Instead, he seems intent on rolling out the red carpet for Brown to perform in Johannesburg—just after #16DaysOfActivism ends.
“The government talks a big game about fighting gender-based violence, but Schreiber must walk the talk as a Minister.”
NO WORD FROM HOME AFFAIRS OR BIG CONCERTS
Meanwhile, the South African has contacted Big Concerts and the Department of Home Affairs for comment.
None has been received.
