HOW TO VIEW YOUR MATRIC RESULTS IN GAUTENG
Almost one million candidates (727 121 full-time and 155 215 part-time) sat for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.
The exams started on 21 OctoberÂand candidates wrote the last paper on 28 November.
The minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube and her deputy Reginah Mhaule, will announce the outcome of the examinations on Monday, 13 January at 18:00.
As has been the case over the years, scores of matric candidates wake up early to buy newspapers in groups and alongside parents, especially at petrol stations, to see their results.
The Gauteng provincial government has introduced a portal to access matric results instantly after they are released to make it easier for those who won’t be able to access newspapers.
To do so, learners can visit results.gauteng.gov.zaand enter the examination number.
RESULTS WILL BE PUBLISHED IN NEWSPAPERS
Meanwhile, the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria dismissed the Information Regulator’s urgent application to interdict the publication of matric results in newspapers and other platforms.
The case was heard on Monday, 6 January, and Judge Ronèl Tolmay on Tuesday ruled in favour of the publication of the results.Â
The Information Regulator had argued that the publication of the matric results in public media would be a violation of the matriculants’ right to privacy.
However, the judge ruled that it is in the public interest and that the results should therefore be published on public platforms and in printed media.
