Here’s how to do a SASSA application status check

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offers a status check service for individuals in need of financial support. This includes grants for unemployed people without other income sources, such as social grants or UIF payments.

Checking Your SASSA R370 Status

To check if your SASSA R370 application is approved, visit the SASSA website. Enter your ID number and phone number. You will also receive updates via email or SMS.

Why Your Status is Approved but No Payment Date

If your status is approved, but there is no payment date, it may be due to a delay in verification. SASSA may still be checking your details. You should follow these steps:

  1. Check the Website Regularly: Updates on payment dates are posted on the official SASSA site.
  2. Be Patient: SASSA processes a high volume of applications, so delays are common.
  3. Contact SASSA: If you’re concerned, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit a SASSA office. Have your ID number ready for faster assistance.
  4. Check Your Bank Details: Ensure your banking information is correct. You can update it online or at a local office.

Understanding a Declined SASSA Application

If your application is declined, there are several possible reasons. These may include:

  • Bank Balance: If your account balance exceeds R624, your application may be declined.
  • Income from Other Sources: Receiving income from UIF, NSFAS, or other grants may disqualify you.
  • Age Requirements: Ensure you meet the age criteria for the SRD grant.
  • Incorrect Information: Inaccurate application details can lead to rejection.

What to Do After a Declined Application

If your application is rejected, take the following actions:

  • Appeal: If you believe there’s a mistake, submit an appeal on the SASSA website.
  • Reapply: If your details were wrong, update them and reapply.
  • Wait for Communication: SASSA may contact you for more information.

Pending Status: What Does It Mean?

A “pending” status means SASSA is still reviewing your application. This includes verifying your details. The verification process can take up to 90 days.

Once your application is approved, an SMS notification will be sent. You will be asked to provide your bank details for payment processing.

How to Check Your SASSA Balance

To check your SRD balance:

  1. Dial 120*3210# or 120*69277#.
  2. Follow the prompts and enter your ID number.
  3. You will receive an SMS with your balance.

Alternatively, you can visit the SASSA website or a local office for balance inquiries.

Post Office Not Selected

If your application shows “Post Office Not Selected,” you may need to choose a branch for payment collection. Update your details online to select a Post Office for receiving your grant.

By following these steps, you can stay informed about your SASSA SRD grant status and ensure prompt payment.
