While the current story is bleak, Kaizer Chiefs’ future looks promising.

The Soweto giants have an array of youngsters bursting onto the scene, led by Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala.

AmaKhosi’s next academy graduates are Mfundo Vilakazi, who is already proving his ability to play top-flight soccer, and soon-to-be senior player Naledi Hlongwane. Both have the prowess to become Kaizer Chiefs’ next best thing.

Hlongwane contract confirmed

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to promote Hlongwane with a three-year contract.

“What I can tell you now is that the promotion process is as good as done,” SoccerLaduma reported.

“They have already allocated jersey number 35 to him and he travelled with the team to Durban for the game against Sekhukhune United. It was thought that he was supposed to have played the game, but they changed the decision in the last minute

“[Regarding] the contract, it’s an initial three-year senior team contract and it will run until June 2028. So, yes, things are working out for the youngsters at Chiefs right now.”

Duba out for Soweto derby

“He [Duba] went for scanning yesterday and that’s when they (Chiefs doctors) were sure that he will be out for about a month and a half,” SoccerLadumaconfirmed.

“He will actually be out for 42 days. It’s a knee injury. He twisted it and got injured. Very bad, my brother, but 42 days is not that bad though.”

News of Duba’s injury, which will have him out of Kaizer Chiefs’ crunch match against Orlando Pirates, was further confirmed by an additional source:

“The team (Chiefs) needed him in this Soweto Derby and him (Duba) as a player also wanted to play and that’s a big blow for the team. But you know, injuries are part of the game. Now he has just to focus on healing and to come back strong.”
