Crowd cancel Scotts Maphuma at a recent gig

It’s been a bumpy ride for viral DJ and amapiano producer Scotts Maphuma, and this week, social media handed him a moment he likely won’t forget anytime soon.

After weeks of making headlines for saying he doesn’t like taking pictures with fans and doesn’t care much for fame, Scotts found himself on the receiving end of what some are calling South Africa’s first live cancellation.

A video that’s now making the rounds online shows Scotts performing, but what really caught everyone’s attention? The crowd. Or more accurately, the crowd’s refusal to dance.

In the video, concertgoers can be seen standing still, seemingly unfazed by the beats blasting from the DJ booth.

“Guys please, forgive Scotts Maphuma,” was written on the video.

The caption of the tweet reads: “Meet Scotts Maphuma, the 1st South African to experience cancel culture live on SABC 1. Yohhhh!”

Even media personality Sol Phenduka chimed in with a spicy take:

“They walked to the front just to show him that they refuse to dance. smh.”

Social media users didn’t hold back either.

One pointed out the cost of pride in the entertainment industry: “If your work involves and profits are dependent on people, best be humble.”

But not everyone was down with the dragging. Some defended the DJ, reminding haters that, regardless of public opinion, he’s still getting booked:

“Lol but he’s still getting booked. Who’s laughing to the bank? Who’s paying who?”

Another wrote, “The future of South Africa is bad and yet South Africans are worried about an individual who cares less about them and is getting booked every day.”
