Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has reacted to critics who accused him of promoting “racial discrimination” within his department.

This comes after an employment circular was made public, with the preference being for coloured South Africans.

In recent weeks, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, criticised his home country for enforcing “racist laws,” which have halted his plans to bring his internet satellite service, Starlink, into the country.

GAYTON MCKENZIE CLAPS BACK AT RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

Last week, Gayton McKenzie was grilled on social media about an employment circular within the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture.

The job spec stipulated that “preference would be given to coloured males, Indian males, white males, coloured females, and Indian females.”

Gayton vehemently defended his stance, stating that his department was enforcing “employment equity.”

The outspoken leader of the Patriotic Alliance continued to defend his actions in various Facebook and X posts.

Gayton McKenzie has defended his department’s decision to prioritise coloured people for job opportunities.

He shared: “Coloureds, Whites, and Indians should also get job opportunities. You can’t threaten me with Unions. I will not retreat or retract”.

In another, he posted: “I can never lead a department that is so unrepresentative of society. I’m being accused of racism by people who really need to look in the mirror.

“Out of 586 total staff at DSAC:  531 are African, 19 Coloured, 4 Indian, [and] 32 White. We are all South Africans”.

Gayton previously stated that he wanted to ensure “representation” within his department.

He posted, “I am for all races. When I find that other races have been ignored and rarely given a job opportunity, it is my duty to fix it. I’m fixing things. I want all races to be represented in the department that I lead.”

Throwing shade at his critics, he added: “Go boil somewhere else.”

TRADE UNION CONDEMNS AD, DEMANDS MINISTER’S DISMISSAL

Meanwhile, the GIWUSA Trade Union has called for Minister Gayton McKenzie’s dismissal based on the “blatant racism” of the advertised job post and for the advert to be retracted.

GIWUSA president Mametlwe Sebei said of Gayton’s stance: “Such discrimination is not only divisive and oppressive, it serves the interests of political elites attempting to distract the working class from their failure to deliver jobs or basic services.

“To be blunt, we will not allow this to pass.”

Sebei called for the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture’s recruitment policies to be made public to “ensure compliance with labour equity principles.”

He added: “President Cyril Ramaphosa must fire Gayton McKenzie as a Minister. Parliament should also discipline him for this racism, anti-migrant hateful conduct and other criminal conduct.”

DO YOU THINK GAYTON’S DEPARTMENTAL STANCE IS JUSTIFIED?
