Kaizer Chiefs have been linked to several quality players over the past year but have struggled to secure any deals.
Although the club has signed eight players, only Sirino can truly be regarded as a quality addition. Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabihimself admitted that his squad lacks the quality needed to compete for top honors.
Here are some of the top players that Kaizer Chiefs failed to sign in the past 12 months:
Elias Mokwana
The Bafana Bafana winger was heavily linked to Chiefs but ended up leaving Sekhukhune United for Esperance.
Khanyisa Mayo
The 26-year-old forward revealed that Kaizer Chiefs just missed out on signing him by a matter of minutes. The Algerian side CR Belouizdad snatched him up for a significant fee before Amakhosi could finalize the deal.
Bongani Zungu
Kaizer Chiefs have signed eight players this season
Another player Amakhosi could have signed is former Bafana Bafana star Bongani Zungu. ‘Ben 10’ would have been a perfect fit for the midfield role in Nabi’s squad, but the club decided against bringing him in, allowing him to join AmaZulu instead.
Fawaaz Basadien
The left-back from Stellenbosch FC is highly rated and considered one of the best in the country. Kaizer Chiefs had the opportunity to acquire both a left-back and a left winger in one player. Although a bid was made to Stellenbosch, the Cape club rejected Amakhosi’s offer for the star, and it appears that Chiefs did not return with an improved proposal.
Other players which Kaizer Chiefs failed to sign includes Asanele Velebayi and Rian Hanamub.
Who should Amakhosi sign this transfter period?
