Former Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat eyeing PSL return

Former Kaizer Chiefs playmaker Khama Billiat is eyeing a Premier Soccer League return.

The 34-year-old Zimbabwean international spent 13 years in South African top-flight football. Khama broke out at Ajax Cape Town before leaving for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2013. It was with the Brazilians where the winger made a name for himself helping the club claim their first CAF Champions League title.

Billiat then made a high-profile switch to rivals Kaizer Chiefs in 2018. Despite a promising start to his career, the 34-year-old failed to live up to expectations and eventually left in 2023. It was reported that Amakhosi offered Khama a new contract with a salary cut but the Zimabwean star rejected the new offer. After six months as a free agent, he joined Zimbabwean club Yadah Stars.

Speaking to iDiski Times, Billiat did not rule out a PSL return.

“Let’s say it’s a great recognition. You know, as players, you always want your effort to be recognised, and I truly appreciate and, ja, it makes me feel young again,” he told iDiski Times.

“You never know with football? Like I just wanted to focus on the league back home. We’re left with five games, I think, and see how far I can go, and where we are and how I did throughout the season. Then sit down and look, if there’s interest, you never know…”

Khama Billiat returned to his homeland earlier this year and has been in fine form since leaving Kaizer Chiefs. At 34, it seems unlikely that he will ever join a top PSL side.
