Former Pirates striker Souaibou Marou has firmly denied rumours about a return to MTN Ligue One with Fauve Azur Elite. Currently a free agent, Marou left Bahrani club Al-Shabab after a brief one-month stint, marking another setback in his career.
Marou initially joined Orlando Pirates as one of Cameroon’s brightest talents, following an impressive run with Coton Sport where he earned accolades like Footballer of the Season and Golden Boot. Despite this success, his time at Pirates proved disappointing, with only nine appearances and no goals scored. His attempt to reignite his career in Asia also fell flat.
Debunking the return to Fauve Azur
On social media, Marou addressed the swirling rumours about his potential return to Fauve Azur Elite, stating, “Since this morning, a rumour has been circulating on social networks that I will be making my return to MTN Elite One… I reiterate to the general public and fans in particular that this is fake news.” He acknowledged Fauve Azur as a respected first-division club but clarified that these rumours hold no truth.
IAt just 23 years old, Marou has already made a mark on the international stage, scoring one goal in three caps for the Indomitable Lions, with his last appearance in 2022. His next steps remain uncertain, but he is determined to find a new opportunity to revive his football career.

In other news, Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro praised the potential of teenage winger Mohau Nkota. Riveiro surprised fans by choosing Nkota to replace Monnapule Saleng in a recent match against Magesi. The young talent has impressed the technical team since his promotion from the DStv Diski Challenge squad.

“He’s a tricky player to defend, even today where Magesi was… reducing the spaces close to the box, defending very very low. But yeah, Mohau is a player who’s growing fast, he’s one of the players really competing to be on the field,” added Riveiro.
