On Tuesday evening, two former Kaizer Chiefsplayers helped SuperSport United achieve a resounding 4-1 victory over their rivals.

This match played under rainy conditions at the FNB Stadium, showcased an exciting display of football from the very beginning.

Matsatsantsa took an early lead with a goal from ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic. Kaizer Chiefs responded in the 30th minute with a goal from their new signing, Makabi Lilepo. However, just two minutes later, another former Chiefs player, Christian Saile, scored to restore SuperSport’s advantage.

SuperSport secures league double over Kaizer Chiefs

In the second half, Gampani Lungu extended the lead to 3-1, as Gavin Hunt’s side effectively frustrated the home team. The situation worsened for Kaizer Chiefs when Gaston Sirino was sent off for a red card.

Siphesihle Ndlovu capped off the evening by scoring the fourth goal for SuperSport with just seven minutes remaining, securing a comfortable win for his team.

With this victory, SuperSport completed a league double over Kaizer Chiefs. The two teams had previously faced each other last year, with Amakhosi winning 4-0 in the Carling Knockout Cup. However, a week later, Matsatsantsa got their revenge, defeating Chiefs 1-0 in their league encounter.

Saile and Nurkovic refused to celebrate after scoring against their former team on Tuesday evening. Chiefs have now tasted seven league defeats this season.

As a result of this match, Kaizer Chiefs fell to sixth place in the Betway Premiership, while SuperSport Unitedremained in 12th position. Amakhosi will play rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in their next league match on 1 March.
