Ex-Kaizer Chiefs captain’s academic qualifications revealed

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite recently opened up about his life before football and discussed his academic qualifications, which have since left him topping trends.

Tafu Mashamaite was the latest guest on The Better Podcast with Lorenz Köhle.

Thanks to his huge following, his interview has gained thousands of comments and reactions since it dropped online.

During the interview, the former Kaizer Chiefs captain revealed that he had to finish his tertiary studies before expressing his craze for football. He said he has always been a ‘scholar before a baller.’

The last Kaizer Chiefs captain to lift a trophy in 2015 made it known that he first enrolled for Law before switching the floor to a BA in Political Science.

Tefu Mashamaite said, “When I left Limpopo, I came through to Wits and registered for a Bachelor of Arts.

“Initially, I registered for Law, but because my major goal was to become a professional footballer, after two years, I switched to BA.”

After pursuing Law, he had to switch the floor to Political Science two years later after realising that his major goal was to be a baller.

However, after graduating from Wits with a BA in International Relations and Political Science, Tefu Mashamaita gave his mother her degree and started pursuing his ‘footballing degree.’

He added, ‘I majored in International Relations and Political Science, and I graduated in 2005. That’s when I gave my mother her degree and pursued my footballing degree.”

Apart from that also completed a national certificate in agriculture in 2021. During one of his interviews he revealed that his biggest goal is to do a FIFA Masters course.

CAREER

According to reports, Tefu Mashamaite started his youth career with Dipitsi in 1999 and left the academy for Wits University in 2003.

Thanks to his command of the game and flair, he was promoted to the senior team in 2005. However, the former Kaizer Chiefs captain revealed captain was loaned to Brixton-based Stars of Africa Academy.

A few seasons later, he made his senior debut against Moroka Swallows on 11 March 2007. However, according to reports, he was integrated into the senior team in the 2008/2009 season.

That same season, Tefu Mashamaite was named the club’s captain. After over 70 appearances with the club, he left as a ‘club legend’, having lifted the Nedbank Cup in 2010.

From Wits, he joined Amakhosi and was undoubtedly at the peak of his career. After over 100 club appearances, he won four trophies and one as a captain.

He is the last Kaizer Chiefs captain to lift a major silverware, having done so in 2015. He left Amakhosi for BK Hacken.

Tefu Mashamaite joined SuperSport United in 2016 before leaving the club for Baberwa FC in 2018.
