Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Edward Manqele has resurfaced at SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League club Sunrise FC. The 37-year-old’s last professional club was Pretoria Callies in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
FARPost has established that Manqele is expected in Limpopo on Thursday afternoon. He will join the club on a short-term contract until the end of the season. Sunrise are an ambitious club based in the town of Lephalale.
They recently roped in the former Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Tebogo Langerman and Punch Masenamela as part of the coaching team. Before that, they also had Joseph Malongoane, who later left to return to Marumo Gallants, who are participating in the Betway Premiership.
LIMPOPO CLUB EXPLAIN THE SIGNING OF FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STRIKER EDWARD MANQELE
“We signed him so that he could bolster our striking department, which has a lot of youngsters,” technical director at the club Markos Legodi told FARPost.
“The signing of both Punch [Masanamela] and [Tebogo] Langerman has proved to be working, as the team has won all four matches. Their experience and teachings have rubbed onto the team.
“Manqele has played for big teams like Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns. He also has international caps. So our young forwards will learn a lot from him,” he said.
ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE SIDE REVEALS AMBITIONS OF SECURING PROMOTION AT THE END OF THE SEASON
The club is second on the log after a perfect start to the season. They are below former provincial champions, the Dolphins, who have a superior goal difference.
“We are aiming to do better than how we did last season. Last season, we were languishing at the bottom of the log where we slightly avoided relegation,” added Legodi.
“So this season, we are looking to improve and, of course, challenge for promotion to the national playoffs.”
