Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana has admitted that he was a Kaizer Chiefs fan growing up.

The 25-year-old speed star was heavily linked with a move to Chiefs at the end of last season but opted to leave Sekhukhune United for Tunisian giants Esperance instead. Amakhosi Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr confirmed that the club made an offer to Sekhukhune United.

Speaking to iDiski Times, the Bafana Bafana star admitted that he grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs.

“Eish, this one’s going to put me in trouble,” Mokwana said when asked about the interest from Amakhosi.

“To tell you the truth, my father was an Orlando Pirates fan and I was a Chiefs fan, now you can see,’ he added.

“When they said Chiefs wanted me, I was happy. Unfortunately, it never happened, but the dream is still there. In the future, I might go.”

Kaizer Chiefs failed to sign Bafana superstar Elias Mokwana

Amakhosi did not only lose out on Mokwena but also Khanyisa Mayo. Both Mokwana and Mayo moved to North African giants despite Chiefs’ interest.

Despite losing out on top players, Kaizer Chiefs still managed to land a Bafana Bafana player who they were eyeing for years. The Soweto giants signed Thabo Cele from Russia in January and the 28-year-old has since delivered.

Will Mokwana ever join Chiefs?
