Shimza bags residency at Club Chinois
South African DJ and producer Shimza, born Ashley Raphala, continues to soar on the international stage, having just announced a coveted summer residency at Club Chinois in Ibiza.
What began as modest gigs in the township of Thembisa, where Shimza threw his own parties and hustled his way onto local line-ups, has now grown into a global legacy in the making.
Over the years, his sound, rooted in Afro-house, storytelling, and rich cultural texture, has taken him from township dancefloors to some of the biggest music festivals and clubs across continents.
In a recent announcement, the DJ shared that he will be playing on the white isle throughout August 2025 as part of his “Shimza &Co” summer residency.
In his words: “This residency is not just for me — it’s for everyone who comes from where I come from. Thembisa shaped my sound, my hustle and my identity. From backyard sets to the global stage, I carry that spirit with me.”
Club Chinois, often described as a haven for the creative and unconventional, is known for merging music, art, and immersive experiences.
Hosting the biggest names in dance music, it has become a symbol of international prestige, and Shimza’s inclusion in its residency lineup speaks volumes about his growing influence in the global Afro-house movement.
