- Malema calls on the youth to go out to communities to explain that a violent uprising is inevitable.
- EFF is crumbling as members jump ship to the MK party and electoral fortunes decline.
In what could be described as a dire act of political desperation to save the little residual political fortunes of a party in decline, the EFF leader is increasingly becoming a latter-day political demagogue.
Desperate to be relevant, EFF leader Julius Malema, has called on the black youth to be ready to pick up arms against white South Africans.
Malema is leading a party that has suffered electoral decline for the first time since it was founded 10 years ago.
The party’s third elective conference is currently underway in Nasrec, Johannesburg on the back of an electoral defeat in a by-election in Limpopo this week.
The week before that, the EFF failed to win a single ward in the mining town of Thabazimbi where 12 wards were up for grabs.
In by-elections across the country this year, the EFF won just one ward – a strong indication that communities are rejecting Malema’s aggressive agenda.
Just about every week, streams of EFF supporters are jumping ship to join Jacob Zuma’s MK party.
Floyd Shivambu, the former EFF deputy president who founded the EFF with Malema, opened the flood gates when he defected to the MK party where he is now the national secretary.
Unable to account for the decline in electoral fortunes, Malema diverted attention to blaming white South Africans for the troubles of poor black communities.
“Ultimately, there will be a need to take up arms as this is the eventual outcome of all struggles against injustice met with resistance.
“This conclusion arises because the white capitalist class feels entitled to the wealth and resources they accumulated through crime and will violently defend their right to exploit and oppress African people,” said Malema.
Julius Malema’s call for violence is unlikely to resonate with black communities who are increasingly walking away from politics of violence and racial segregation.
In 2023, Malema overplayed his violent hand when he tried to sabotage the economy with a so-called national shutdown that turned into an epic failure.
