James Gunn, the mastermind behind the upcoming Superman: Legacy, has praised David Corenswet’s portrayal of the iconic superhero.

While fans eagerly wait for their first glimpse of Corenswet as Superman, Gunn is brimming with confidence in his leading man’s abilities.

JAMES GUNN ON ‘SUPERMAN’

James Gunn couldn’t hide his excitement, according to IMDB.

“Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, David Corenswet is going to freak everyone out with how great he is,” Gunn said.

“He is one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with, and he can do everything. The man is incredible.” Strong words from a director who has worked with some of Hollywood’s finest.

South Africans who grew up watching Superman swoop in to save the day will be thrilled to see what Corenswet brings to the role.

THE NEW SUPERMAN ON THE BLOCK

The actor, known for his work in Pearl and Hollywood, steps into some very large boots. Yet, Gunn’s glowing endorsement suggests he’s more than up to the task.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble, according to Cosmic Book News.

Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel) joins as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult (The Great) takes on the role of the cunning Lex Luthor.

Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) stars as Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern with a knack for trouble. Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) will play Hawkgirl.

‘SUPERMAN’S’ SUPPORTING CAST

Fans can also look forward to Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho.

The Daily Planet newsroom expands with Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live) as Steve Lombard and Mikaela Hoover (The Suicide Squad) as Cat Grant.

This packed cast promises a dynamic and entertaining mix of characters.

SUPERMAN’S INTERNAL STRUGGLE

The film is set to explore Superman’s struggle to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing, according to Screen Rant.

“Superman represents truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned,” said Gunn.

Unlike previous Superman films, Superman: Legacy won’t retell his origin story.

Instead, it will focus on the hero’s journey to find his place in a divided world. For South Africans, the theme of dual identity might strike a chord.

TEST SCREENINGS UNDERWAY

As a nation often navigating the balance between heritage and modernity, Superman’s journey feels relatable.

Although fans haven’t yet seen Corenswet in action, test screenings are already underway.

Some speculate that the first teaser trailer could drop before the end of the year.

IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE, IT’S..

A release this close to Christmas would certainly boost anticipation for the film, set to hit cinemas on 11 July 2025.

As the excitement builds, Gunn’s words set the tone.

“Superman is an enormous bear of a movie. It’s completely different from anything I’ve worked on before, but it’s fantastic.”

For South African Superman fans, the wait to see Corenswet in action might feel long. But with Gunn’s stamp of approval, it seems the next Man of Steel is in safe hands.
