New York City’s DGA Theatre buzzed with excitement as Dakota Johnson graced the red carpet for the premiere of her latest film, Materialists.
The romantic comedy, set to hit cinemas on 13 June, showcases Johnson in the role of Lucy, a sharp and ambitious matchmaker caught between two very different men.
DAKOTA JOHNSON IN NEW YORK
Dakota Johnson arrived in a striking ensemble that perfectly balanced boldness and sophistication. She wore a sheer black set by Nensi Dojaka, featuring a long-sleeve, criss-cross draped top.
The actress also wore a fluted mermaid midi skirt layered over a chocolate-brown bodysuit.
She accessorised the outfit with Gucci’s iconic Jackie Bag, chunky gold hoops, black stiletto slingbacks, and oversized sunglasses.
Her makeup was soft and natural, with a rose-coloured lip, while her fringed bangs and straight hair flowed freely.
DAKOTA JOHNSON AND CHRIS EVANS ATTEND PREMIERE
The look was a nod to her reputation as a fashion icon, especially after her dazzling appearances at Cannes and the Madame Web premiere.
The premiere was a lively affair, with co-star Chris Evans also in the spotlight. Though Pedro Pascal was absent, the duo brought a cheeky cardboard cutout of him, sharing playful kisses with it and each other.
This lighthearted moment delighted fans and highlighted the camaraderie among the cast, according to Just Jared.
Dakota Johnson herself expressed how much fun she had during filming. “It was so much fun for me to only be acting. I felt like I was in such good hands, I could just relax into that role”.
THE PLOT
Materialists tells the story of Lucy, who is torn between her perfect match, Harry (Pedro Pascal), and her imperfect ex, John (Chris Evans).
The film explores the complexities of love with a witty and contemporary edge. It blends classic romantic comedy charm with thoughtful conversations about ambition and identity.
DAKOTA JOHNSON IS BACK
Director Celine Song, known for her Oscar-nominated debut Past Lives, brings a fresh voice to the genre.
She said, “We’re not just showing up here to be in love and beautiful and get to be in a rom-com. We’re also going to take this opportunity to talk about something”.
As the premiere wrapped up, the buzz was clear: Dakota Johnson is back, and Materialists is poised to charm audiences worldwide.
